Venerable Old Gentleman (VOG)

Richard was fantastic fun and Sarah and I have many fond memories of trips around the UK and to France with him. He was a smooth and swift yet very relaxed rider who made anything he sat astride look like some sort of self-driven, mechanical miracle. Richard's sense of humour was brilliant and he was great fun to be with. Our favourite memory was at Tim and Sarah's in the Dordogne in 2006. Richard was camping with the boys (Terry, Bob and Dave Walker). He lost his keys on the first or second day of the holiday and spent much of the time either travelling with Sarah Austin in the car or getting a lift with another member. Search as we may we couldn't find his keys anywhere and Richard was pretty much resigned to having to have his bike recovered or spend a fortune getting a new key cut in Bordeaux. He'd turned everything upside down looking for the keys, including his tent and eventually found them stuck to the bottom of his magnetic tank bag where he'd offloaded on the first day! Oh how we laughed....... :-). Richard's genteel state and his ability to carry himself off whatever the situation led to his title of Venerable Old Gentleman (or VOG for short). We miss you Richard and hope you won't be too reckless on your heavenly bikes (or at least that they won't smell so much of two-stroke or overly rich mixture!!
